Golfing thoughts from Steve Ables

In 1999 my dad and I played the Old Course in St. Andrews. In the pro shop I discovered a wooden box that contained a bottle of single malt scotch distilled in the city. I brought the bottle home and my golf group all etched their names on the wooden box. Our commitment is to gather at the passing of each of us and take a sip of the scotch and remember. We have broken the seal and sipped when Mike Baumann passed. We hope it will be a good while before our next sip. Pasted to the back of the box is a toast we raise at the end of our gatherings. One day it will be raised by only one.

The Toast:

“Here’s to the friendship,

Created and nurtured

By the mutual love

For the game of golf.

To the players and the game.”
