Jourdanton — The Longhorns mustered just three hits Thursday night as they lost 10-0 to No. 1 Refugio in Game 1 of the Region IV-2A Area-Round playoff series. The loss moves Harper to 0-1 in the best-of-three series.

Refugio put together 10 runs on eight hits in the game and finally run-ruled the Longhorns in the bottom of the fifth. Refugio scored two in the first and four in the second for a commanding 6-0 lead. Harper held them off the scoreboard for the next two innings, but gave up four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to finalize the outcome.

Layne Holmes (1-for-3), Ben Lashley (1-for-3, double) and Dylan Sivells (1-for-2) recorded the only hits for Harper in the game. Tracy Patterson got the start for Harper, but never found a rhythm to slow down Refugio.

Game 2 is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. at Seguin TLU.
