MENARD — The Longhorns struck early and often against the Menard Yellowjackets and picked up a 17-1 district win on Thursday night. Harper scored 13 runs in the first inning and tallied 22 hits in the ballgame.
The win improves the Longhorns to 6-4 in District 29-2A.
Layne Holmes had five hits in the game including a pair of doubles to go along with three RBIs. Ben Lashley was four-for-four with five runs batted in with two doubles and a triple. Dylan Sivells had two RBIs while going two-for-three.
The pitching trio of Tracy Patterson, Ryland Johnson and Sivells struck out 10 batters and allowed two base hits.
Harper will take a brief one-game break from loop play, as they’ll host San Antonio Cole Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
HARPER — The Ladyhorns picked up their district leading 10th win of the season Thursday night in a 18-0 rout of Medina. Harper scored eight in the first inning and 10 in the second inning and held the Bobcats to two hits for the win.
Harper moves to 10-0 in loop play to stay on top of the district.
Haley Jodoin went 2-for-3 with a game-high six RBIs thanks to two home runs, one of them a grand slam, to power Harper. Mercy Garcia drove in three runs and had a triple. Callie Koenig also had a three-bagger with two RBIs and two hits in three trips to the plate.
Callie Koenig pitched just 3.0 innings in the run-rule shortened game. She gave up two hits and struck out five.
The Ladyhorns head into the final two games of the regular season. They will face La Pryor on Tuesday away from Harper at 6 p.m.
