Brady Delgado didn’t deliver his best stuff on Friday night. That might make his performance on the mound Friday night even more impressive.

Delgado battled against Alamo Heights. He pitched a complete game, limiting the Mules to six hits in the Antlers’ 5-3 win over Heights in Game 1 of their area round series in Jourdanton. The Antlers (26-10) will play Game 2 on Saturday at 5 p.m. in Jourdanton.

“He just competes,” said Russ, who took time away from his postgame meal at Whataburger to conduct a phone interview. “He is always in the zone with all three pitches and makes the other team beat you.”

The Antlers gifted Delgado with an early lead by scoring four runs in the first. A balk by Jackson Veale plated Tivy’s fifth run in the third.

Since Delgado pitched a complete, Russ will have all of his other pitchers available for Saturday. He has yet determined a starter for Game 2.
