MARION — The Harper Ladyhorns were handed just their fifth loss all season long in Game 1 of the Region IV-2A Semifinal series against Weimar Thursday night. Weimar took the first game, 11-3, thanks to strong pitching in the circle.

Harper was limited to just three runs on three hits in the game. Weimar’s starter went 7.0 innings and gave up three runs on three hits while striking out nine Ladyhorns.

Harper pitching wasn’t as fortunate, as starter Callie Koenig went just 2.0 innings and allowed eight runs on four hits and four walks. Julia Mauldin came on for the rest of the game and allowed three runs on six hits while striking out four.

Mercy Garcia, Logan Menzies and Gracie Green recorded the three hits for Harper, with Green coming through with a triple and two RBIs. Weimar scored six runs in the first inning and led 8-2 after two innings. Harper scored again, but Weimar added runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings for the 11-3 final.

The series resumes Friday night at 7 p.m. in Marion.
