As we move from spring into summer, summer break begins for many, and families can take advantage of the many opportunities in and around our beautiful area for having fun and making memories.

Naturally, families often travel more during the summer. Please ensure that your child is secured safely and appropriately in your vehicle, as per national recommendations and state law for their weight and age. Whether they use a car seat or a booster seat, ensure that it is installed and anchored correctly, and that car seats haven’t become loose.

Children should never be left unattended in a vehicle even for short times. In the summer months with our hot Texas temperatures, leaving a child alone in a vehicle can be a fatal mistake.

Temperatures inside can climb quickly, subjecting children to dehydration, heat stroke, and even death. Please take the time to unbuckle children and bring them with you; their safety is absolutely at stake.

As we enjoy the summer months, it is important to remember the risk of sunburn. Though it seems innocuous and just a part of summer, sunburn can cause lasting damage and predispose us to skin cancer.

Please use sunscreen, with an SPF rating of at least 30. Remember to keep the whole family well hydrated! For healthy summer fun, please stay safe on the roads, be mindful of the sun, and beat the heat with plenty of fluids. Enjoy your summer and make some great memories.
