John Ray Anderson, age 69, passed away on May 17, 2019, at his home in Hunt, Texas.
He was born John Ray Waits in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Betty Jean Lawyer and J.R. Waits on August 23, 1949. He was later adopted by his step-father, Dan M. Anderson.
He and his wife, Kathryn Cunningham Anderson, were married on August 20, 1970, in Nassau Bay, Texas.
John and his wife both graduated from Spring Woods High School in Houston, Texas. He attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, and graduated in 1973 from University of Houston with a degree in Industrial Education.
He worked as an Industrial Arts teacher in Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District in Houston, Texas, and then in Ingram I.S.D. in Ingram, Texas, for a total of 40 years.
John loved camping, hiking and traveling with his family, woodworking, making custom fly rods and had become an expert in the field of genealogy.
John Anderson was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Dan Anderson; and his sister, Terry Jean Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Cunningham Anderson; his daughter, Lisa Anderson Bird, and her husband, Bryan S. Bird; and his brother, Allan D. Waits; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10: a.m. Friday, May 24, 2019, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Kerrville, Texas, with Bishop Carlson officiating.
