Isabel Smith Creel Dodson passed away on May 31 at the age of 87. Izzy was born on May 8, 1932, to Benno and Clara Land in Kleinfreinreich, a small German community outside of Fredericksburg. She graduated from Fredericksburg HS and married Don Smith. They moved several times to Robstown, Bryan and Boerne, finally settling in Kerrville to raise their three daughters. She was a secretary at Pampells Drug Store, Schreiner College and Kerrville Funeral Home.
After a divorce, she moved to Austin, where she met and married George Creel, who preceded her in death.
She met her current husband, Galen Dodson, at a dance club, and they have shared many happy years.
Izzy made friends everywhere she went. In her younger years, she was a real spitfire and gained the nickname Tiger. If she was looking at you with a frown on her face, you better clear out.
Izzy loved dancing and football and remained an avid fan of Kerrville Tivy and the Dallas Cowboys.
All family gatherings were blessed with her cooking and baking skills.
Izzy was preceded in death by her mother and father; her older sister, Margaret; and her second husband, George Creel.
She is survived by her husband, Galen Dodson; sister, Doris Schaeferkoeter; and daughters, Carol Smith of New Braunfels, Joy Smith Roederer of Fort Worth and Sherry Smith Hinesman and husband, Rodney of Austin. Izzy has 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
