Edward Ray Helms, 85, passed away on Monday, June 3, 2019, in Kerrville, Texas. He was born in Tigertown, Texas, to Dewey N. Helms and Lorene I. Hudgens on May 26, 1934. He married Anita M. Porter on August 5, 1960, in Bonham, Texas.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army, then went on to graduate from the University of Houston. He had a successful career as a Quality Control Engineer in Aerospace and military contracts. However, in 1991, he felt the call of our Lord Jesus Christ to go into full time ministry, where he served as a pastor for 21 years.
Edward Ray Helms was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey N. Helms and Lorene I. Hudgens; and his brother, Dewey Don Helms.
Edward Ray Helms is survived by his wife, Anita Porter Helms; his siblings, Billy Helms and wife, Wanda, and Betty Vinski; sister-in-law, Faye Helms; 4 children; 8 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on the 8th of June at First Family Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Phil Jackson and Pastor David R. Helms, of Northview Community Church, officiating. Burial will follow on the 13th of June at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:15 a.m.
