Scores of local peace officers gathered for a moment of silence at the Kerr County Courthouse, with emergency lights activated, to honor the service of a state trooper who died in a hospital from gunshot wounds sustained near Mexia.

The event was organized by Scott Prout, a captain with the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office, after Gov. Greg Abbott, in a Wednesday statement, asked Texas law enforcement officers to “turn on their red and blue flashing lights for one minute at 1 P.M. ... April 1, to honor Trooper Walker and all officers in Texas.”
