Kerrville residents gathered in Louise Hays Park on Saturday for a day of outdoor play and summer celebration.

The annual Get Outdoors Day — hosted by the parks and recreation department — featured activities ranging from giant checkers and trash can soccer to a petting zoo and a dunking booth. There also were a variety of education booths and other events.

“I think it’s a great chance for families to come out together and really enjoy all the activities that we offer,” said Stuart Cunyus, Kerrville’s public information officer. “It’s always fun to watch (kids’) reaction when they’re holding snakes and other kinds of slimy things.”

The day started out with the second annual Kerrville Craft Beer Run, which was sponsored by Pint and Plow and Basement Brewers of Texas, and wrapped up with Shakespeare in the Park, put on by Playhouse 2000. There was also a sand volleyball tournament in the afternoon.
