A 35-year-old Comfort man was sentenced to 20 years in prison this week after being given a chance two years ago to avoid a long prison sentence.

Michael Jeffrey McCollum was sentenced to 16 months in state jail and 10 years probation on Sept. 27, 2019, after having committed a crime spree that year involving seven burglaries, debit/credit card fraud and two assaults on an elderly man. He was convicted of five of the felonies but allowed the chance to escape two convictions and was given the chance to complete a drug addiction treatment program.
