2nd graders get a day of learning at RNC

Second graders from the Hunt School learn about birds and how they adapt for safety and finding food from instructor Susa McKinley with the Riverside Nature Center on Thursday during the UGRA Second Grade Science Days. According to Becky Etzler, director of the nature center, outlying schools send their second graders in the spring, and Kerrville schools visit in the fall.

Students in the science lab at the Riverside Nature Center, 150 Francisco Lemos St., work together to find insects or worms in the soil in their containers. Second graders from Center Point Elementary School are, from left, Dean Gonzalez, Luz Mayeles, Sophia Martinez, Hason Janokoot and Sophia Busby. The groups rotated through several classes that covered butterflies, insects, birds, amphibians and reptiles and were also taken on a nature hike to identify a list of creatures they saw.
