You may wonder, as I do, why bad things happen to good people, if we believe that God is good, that he is a God of love and mercy who cares for us humans whom he has created, a God who blesses us with so much.

The tragedies our world is experiencing today, and have always in one way or another throughout history, are seemingly unbelievable. The storms that have brought so much destruction to California and so many other places in our country — tornados and lethal floods in the Southern states, recent destructive storms and flooding in my favorite, the beautiful land of New Zealand, where I once served some wonderful people in rural churches, to disastrous earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, where thousands of people were killed and children orphaned.
