Recently, I wrote about the scrapbooks kept by two separate 1916 graduates of Tivy High School: Lillian Sutton and Rosita Holdsworth. In the early part of the last century, it was popular for young ladies to keep a “yearbook” of the memories of their senior year in high school. Sandy and Jon Wolfmueller gave me Ms. Sutton’s scrapbook; Dr. William Rector has Ms. Holdsworth’s.

In reading the young women’s scrapbooks, I noticed a slight hint of something unusual happening during their year. I found this line in Ms. Holdsworth’s scrapbook: “Our senior year has been a very trying one.”
