Holiday season gets kicked off this weekend
Published November 17, 2009
From entertainment on the steps of the historic Schreiner Museum to Kerr County’s annual lighted parade and Kerrville Performing Arts Society’s production of “The Nutcracker in the Hills,” there will be numerous opportunities this weekend for local residents to begin getting into the holiday spirit. The following is a list of some of the festivities.
‘Christmas Belles’
At 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday, The Point Theater in Ingram will present “Christmas Belles” a comedy about a church Christmas pageant gone awry. The story follows the Futrelle Sisters — Frankie, Twink and Honey Raye — who try to reign in the mayhem.
More information is available at www.hcaf.com/theatre/shows2009/christmasbelles.htm, or at the theater box office at 367-5121.
Holiday Lighted Parade
At 6 p.m. Saturday, crowds will gather for the annual Holiday Lighted Parade in downtown Kerrville. Parade participants will begin lining up at 4:30 p.m. Check-in will be at the corner of G Street and Sidney Baker South.
Participants must be in line by 5 p.m. if they want their entry to be judged. Parade will start at the corner of G and Water streets. To obtain a parade application, go to http://kerrville.org/DocumentView.aspx?DID=5061.
The annual courthouse lighting ceremony will follow the parade at 7 p.m. The ceremony will include a Christmas program, caroling and the arrival of Santa Claus.
Celebrate at the Schreiner Mansion Museum
Residents who are downtown for the parade can get in the holiday spirit by stopping by the Schreiner Mansion Museum, where staff of Schreiner University will host a free public event from 4 to 6 p.m., featuring music and spiced cider before the courthouse lighting ceremony.
‘Nutcracker in the Hills’
The annual holiday kick- off weekend wouldn’t be complete without performances of Kerrville Performing Arts Society’s growing tradition of “The Nutcracker in the Hills,” which this year will be presented by the San Diego Ballet with performances by local student dancers.
Two performances will be offered — 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cailloux Theater, 910 Main St.
Ticket prices range from $10 to $35 for adults and $5 to $20 for students, and are available for both performances.
Residents also can take advantage of a $40 family ticket package sponsored by H-E-B to help encourage families to attend the show together. Along with the promotion, H-E-B is offering a discounted photo package of families attending the event.

From 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, the Y.O. Ranch Resort Hotel will feature the Hill Country Market.
The grand ballroom of the Y.O. will be filled with clothing, tabletop designs, jewelry, home décor, gifts, gourmet delights, holiday decorations and more.
