Area fourth-graders got a first-hand look at safety procedures of local law enforcement and other agencies Wednesday at the Hill Country Youth Exhibit Center.
More than 120 students from Harper, Center Point and Ingram were treated to presentations from the Kerrville Police Department, Kerrville Fire Department, local game wardens, Kerrville Public Utility Board, EMS and the Department of Public Safety.
“The program was very successful today,” said KPD public information officer Paul Gonzales, who showed kids how police handle numerous situations to keep themselves and the public safe. “The kids were really interested in obtaining information that we were providing. The focus was on safety, and I felt it was very valuable with this age group. I got great questions and everyone was having a good time.”
Students saw first-hand the dangers of electrical wires when KPUB employees demonstrated how electricity is conducted through a hot dog to simulate a person being electrocuted.
Fourth-grade students from the Kerrville Independent School District will spend today seeing the presentations.
