Lillian Houy Cooper
LLANO — Called home to the arms of her Heavenly Father, Lillian Cooper passed from this life Nov. 17, 2009. She was born Nov. 2, 1924, and raised in rural Fredericksburg, Texas, where she grew to love the simple things in life and enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with family. She had a quiet, gentle and unassuming manner and often gave unselfishly of herself to others. She was a woman of courage, strength and conviction. During her career, she worked at Knopp Nursing Home in Fredericksburg and at the State Hospital in Kerrville prior to her retirement in 1975 from the VA Medical Center in Kerrville. While working at the VA Medical Center in Kerrville, she met Lorane “Doc” Cooper, who became the love of her life. On May 16, 1971, they married and later relocated to Fredericksburg, Texas, until 2005. She cherished visits from her grandchildren and loved to cook for them or play games with them. Family gatherings found her engaging her grown children and grandchildren alike in a spirited game of softball or volleyball. She delighted in the opportunity to go fishing with her sons, and she took pleasure in going to the lake whenever she could. She enjoyed meeting new people and always tried to find the good in others. The simple things in life seemed to bring her the most joy. She touched many lives with her kind demeanor and believed in leading by example. She will be deeply missed by friends and family, but her memory will continue to live on in each of our hearts. Forever loved, Our Mother. Survivors include her children, Charlett Banta and husband, Garland, of Stonewall, Texas, Andrew Andersen and wife, Victoria, of Kerrville, Texas, Charles Andersen and wife, Doris, of Tow, Texas, and Clifford Andersen and wife, Marlene, of Llano, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Oline Sagebiel, Hellen Schuessler and husband, Monroe, Newton Houy and wife, Verna Mae, Betty Rabke, Nathalie Sims and Darlene Teltone; numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Elsie Houy.
