County officials to receive grant
Published November 25, 2009
Kerr County officials are hoping money through a federal grant program will help them save money in the long run by making the courthouse more energy efficient.
Rosa Lavender, who also is the county victims’ rights coordinator, presented commissioners with five projects Monday that could be funded through an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant. Those projects include replacing older air conditioning and heating units, new light fixtures and replacing an older, drafty door at the courthouse.
“It’s kind of like Christmas earlier,” Lavender said.
County officials have been told that they can expect to receive at least $100,000 from the grant, but more could be made available. The deadline for communities to submit their application requests is next month, and Lavender said if any communities miss that deadline, the funds that were allocated to them will be redistributed among others.
“I’m sure we’ll get more than $100,000; it’s just a question of how much,” said Kerr County Judge Pat Tinley.
The list presented by Lavender totaled $128,000. Items on the list were about $12,000 to replace two air conditioners at the courthouse, $11,000 to replace light ballasts in the courthouse, $33,500 to replace four air conditioners at the jail, $69,000 to replace exterior lighting at the courthouse and $1,000 to replace an exterior door at the courthouse.
