George Dixon Mahon
GRANBURY — George Dixon Mahon, 81, of Granbury, Texas, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 14, 2009. He was born Feb. 15, 1928, in Kerr County. He had ranching interests there and in Maverick County for many years. He earned a doctor’s degree in Jurisprudence at the University of Houston and then lived in Ozona, Texas, where he was first County Attorney, then District Attorney for five counties in West Texas for 20 years. He was engaged in the oil and gas business. He also was a philanthropist for many charitable organizations. He owned a home in Mexico for 30 years and became a Mexican citizen. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Eileen Mahon. He is survived by his son, Scott Mahon and daughter-in-law, Jane; a daughter, Cynthia Griffin and son-in-law, George; a sister, Ann Mahon; two brothers, Lamar Mahon and Everitt Mahon; and a sister-in-law, Joan Moore; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is interred in the Garden of Memories Mausoleum in Kerrville, Texas. In lieu of flowers and because of his love of animals, donations may be made to Friends for Animals, 2885 Fall Creek Highway, Acton, TX 76049; or to the Benevolence Fund, Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 3600 Fall Creek Highway, Acton, TX 76049.
