Tom Milligan
KERRVILLE — Tom Milligan, 82, of Kerrville, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2009, in a local hospital. He was born Sept.14, 1926, in Celina, Texas, to James and Lucy (Dutton) Milligan. On June 2, 1951, he married E. Jean Rushing in Center, Texas. Tom served in World War II in the Philippines as a Staff Sergeant. He was a charter member of Lake Highland Methodist Church in Dallas, where he taught Sunday School, served on the Building Committee, was active in the choir and was Chairman of Administration. He also coached church softball and Little League. Tom loved all kinds of music, blues, country, rock and roll and gospel. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Kerrville Chapter. Tom’s lifetime occupation was as a journalist and had worked for the Fort Worth Star Telegram. While at the Dallas Morning News, he covered the Billy Sol Estes trial in the 1960s and the assassination of President Kennedy. He also worked for Irrigation Age Magazine and Electricity on the Farm Magazine. He retired as the Public Information Director of the Department of Water Resources. He dearly loved all of his family. Survivors include his wife, Jean Milligan of Kerrville; daughter, Jean Anne (Jeannie) Choate and husband, Ben, of Menard, Texas; son, Thomas Jay Milligan of Kerrville; sister-in-law, Wilma McFarland of Lufkin, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, 2009, at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Bill Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children.
