Bobbie Ann Trigg Covey
CAMP VERDE — Bobbie Ann Trigg Covey of Camp Verde, Texas, passed away Sunday the 17th of June, 2007.
She was born on the 17th of July, 1933, in Fort Worth, to Dr. and Mrs. Ross B. Trigg. Bobbie attended Arlington Heights High School and TCU before marrying and settling in Kerrville.
Her love of cooking began as a young wife and mother, working with her husband in establishing and operating Torres Restaurant. From there, Bobbie joined James Avery Craftsman, eventually becoming the first retail sales manager for the company.
After relocating to Austin in the mid-1970s, she returned to the field she loved, opening the popular restaurants El Metate and Salsas, as well as working as a chef during Chuy’s infancy. She attained recognition from cooking professionals for her innovative style of Tex-Mex cooking.
Bobbie always considered the Hill Country her home, and returned in 1992. Living in the country in Camp Verde brought back the pleasures of her youth. There she enjoyed gardening, feeding and observing the area wildlife, and spending time with her family and friends. She loved to cook for friends and develop new recipe ideas.
Bobbie made many friends and admirers during her years living in Kerrville and Austin. She will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, and for being a true and loyal friend. It was said of her, “I’m a better person for knowing her.” Though Bobbie never backed down from a challenge and was known for her courage and determination, she was unable to recover from a recent heart attack and stroke.
She will be mourned by her daughters, Gina Romero, Toni R. Box, son-in-law, Michael, and their children and grandchildren living in the Houston area, and many, many caring friends.
Bobbie was a constant source of support and encouragement to her children and all whose lives she touched. She will be greatly missed, but always remembered.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 22, at 1:30 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels.
For those desiring, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Kathleen C. Cailloux Animal Shelter, 2900 Junction Hwy., Kerrville, TX 78028.
The family invites you to send condolences at www.grimesfuneralchapels.com by selecting the “Send Condolences” link.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapels of Kerrville.
