Ingram ISD board approves policy change
Published November 11, 2009
At their regular meeting Monday night, members of the Ingram Independent School District school board unanimously approved a slew of changes to district policies based on recommendations from the Texas Association of School Boards.
At the top of the board’s agenda was implementing TASB update 86. The update is sent to all public school boards in Texas and recommends changes to a wide array of topics, including election procedures, activity funds management, purchasing, integrated pest management, transportation safety, criminal history checks, employee grievances, grading, promotion and retention, graduation requirements, physical education, military dependents, student absences, student discipline and the Public Information Act.
“These changes were given to us by TASB to keep our district current with the changes enacted by the most recent legislature,” Superintendent J.T. Stroder told the board at their meeting.
Among the changes are a new Texas law that will require all school buses purchased after Sept. 1, 2010, to have three-point seat belts for all passengers. In all, TASB has made more than 100 reccomendations to Texas schools. A full list is available on TASB’s Web site, www.tasb.org.
Also at Monday’s meeting, the board voted unanimously to sell surplus, unneeded equipment. The board authorized the district to sell six buses, two vans, a truck and various groundskeeping equipment.
The board also approved drawings for a proposed classroom pavilion to be built on district grounds. Construction of the project has not yet been approved, but by approving the drawings, the district now owns them.
