Hunt man arrested for felony theft
Published October 1, 2009
A Hunt man has been charged with felony criminal mischief and burglary of a building after Kerrville police responded to an alarm at the Kerrville JCPenney just after midnight Wednesday.
Joshua Vlasek, 21, was arrested on felony criminal mischief charges more than $25,000 and burglary.
Officers responding to the alarm noticed the front glass doors near the entrance to the jewelry department had been shattered. Kerr County Sheriff’s office helped secure the perimeter before conducting a search inside the building. The suspect was not found in the store.
Multiple jewelry counters were smashed and the store is taking an inventory to determine what items are missing. Damage to the doors and glass cases is estimated at $6,000.
While searching the area, officers found a suspicious vehicle parked near the main entrance of Ken Stoepel Ford. In the parking lot of the Ford dealership, officers found a number of vehicles with broken windshields, taillights and headlights, dented hoods and exterior holes, made from an object similar to a hammer.
Eight vehicles had been damaged and the damage was estimated at $25,000.
After reviewing video surveillance at JCPenney, officers recognized the suspect. At approximately 3:25 a.m., Ingram City Marshals assisted in locating Vlasek in the 500 block of Texas 39 in Ingram.
Vlasek told authorities “his truck had broken down near the Albertson’s” in Kerrville and he was running to his home in Hunt, according to a KPD report.
The case has been forwarded to the KPD Criminal Investigation Unit. Vlasek was booked into the Kerr County Jail and released on a $10,000 bond Wednesday.
