Kerr County students prep for district show

Like professional athletes during the exhibition season, hundreds of school children from Kerrville, West Kerr County and Center Point spent the weekend gearing up for the “big show.”

Young men and women unloaded, groomed and showed their goats, sheep, swine and cattle in the arenas at the Hill Country Youth Event Center. And judges carefully watched and rendered their verdicts, while families and friends offered support.

Ribbons, buckles and blankets were handed out to the champions and reserve champions of the Kerrville, West Kerr and Center Point schools livestock shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

In addition to congratulations and awards, however, there were points of advice for all competitors — what they can do to improve their animals and their showing skills — for when they return for the Hill Country District Junior Livestock Show in the same arenas starting this weekend.

Do the city's signage and billboard regulations need an update?

Signage has been a hot topic for discussion in our comment sections of late, with multiple variance requests going before the city's Planning and Zoning Commission regarding various signs, both digital and otherwise. Should the city update its rules regarding signs — how big, where, how many, etc. — or should the rules remain as they are?
