My biggest weather challenge today will involve temperatures. Two cold fronts are tracking across the area Thursday.

The first front is Pacific in nature and brings a brief period of west winds during our morning hours.

This first frontal boundary is going to dry us out and bring a slight chance of showers mainly east of Kerrville before noon.

Our second cold front will come in with more fanfare. This front will be a wind machine and is expected to drop temperatures into the 40s and 50s.

I expect the second cold front to also bring gusts from the north as high as 30 to 40 mph, so secure loose objects and make sure you are prepared for windy weather before this afternoon. Ahead of the cold front, temperatures could warm into the 60s, but this will happen early.

The winds likely will remain gusty throughout the evening tonight. After sunset, a steady drop into the lower and middle 40s is expected, with north winds of 15 to 25 mph through 9 p.m. After midnight, the winds will finally settle down and temperatures will end up in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees. By daybreak, north winds will resume at 5 to 10 mph.

Friday should be sunny and dry. It’s a static kind of day with very low humidity and highs in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. Wind speeds will remain light and variable.

Over the weekend, additional cold fronts are expected with highs in the 50s Saturday and Sunday with lows in the 20s at night. No rainfall is expected this weekend.

Pay close attention to the weather next week as computer models are showing arctic air spreading across the country. We could see precipitation next week and a rather chilly work week in the making.
