Local CHL-holding seniors concerned about self-defense, constitutional rights

Posted: Sunday, November 3, 2013 7:56 pm

Although it may not be shocking that people older than 50 appear to lead other age groups in seeking concealed handgun licenses in a retirement community like Kerrville, a recent study indicates the trend may be reflected across the state.

Most Texans seeking CHLs in the last five years have been older than 50, according to a recent analysis by The Star-Telegram, which examined data from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Last year, according to the study, more 57-year-old Texans sought a CHL than any other age group. In 2012, 3,609 57-year-olds, 3,588 64-year-olds and 3,576 53-year-olds sought CHLs, compared to 1,979 21-year-olds, 1,713 22-year-olds and 1,583 23-year-olds, according to the newspaper.
